Chairman of BBMP Accounts Committee, A L Shivakumar, has pointed out discrepancies in the Accounts department in a press release dated March 26th. The Accounts Committee held an inspection in the Accounts office on 26th.

They found that many letters and documents had been lying pending in the office's Receiving Section for 6-7 months; some had been pending for over a year.

More serious matters were found. A letter from the Chief Secretary of Urban Development Department termed ‘very urgent’ has been lying pending for more than three months. In cases where employees had paid off loan amounts, installments were still being deducted from their salaries. Though Syndicate Bank had returned this money in the form of Demand Drafts, the DDs had been lying around for four months and no action had been taken on them.

• Financial year for 2012-13 begins on April 1st.

• As there has been no revision in taxes, tax can be paid as per last year. There is no change in self-declared tax and building depreciation.

• Property tax can be paid at all BBMP offices and Bangalore One centers on all working days. Payment hours are from 9 am to 12.30 pm, and from 3 pm to 7 pm.

• If the entire year's property tax is paid by 30th April, you can get a rebate of 5%. If not paid by 30th May, you will have to pay an additional interest of 2% for every month of delay.

There will 18 such new centres, announced Dr D S Ravindran, Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for e-governance, at a workshop organised by state government's Department of e-governance on January 24th. Bangalore Traffic Police (BTP) won the ‘Golden Peacock Awards for Innovative Product/Service’ for its B-TRAC project, on January 21st. The award, instituted by Institute of Directors (IOD) and Golden Peacock Awards Secretariat, was conferred at the '22nd World Congress on Total Quality Summit' at Hotel Lalit Ashok.

According to a press release by the police department, BTP got the award for these achievements:

• Installing 179 surveillance cameras to monitor traffic.
• Installing five enforcement cameras to check traffic violations.
• Installing 20 Variable Messaging Systems for disseminating traffic information.
• Installing 330 integrated solar-powered traffic signal lights.

Doctors and officials of BBMP Health Committee conducted an inspection on 3 January 2012.

They visited Kanti Sweets production unit in Industrial Town of Rajajinagar. The owner was advised to maintain hygienic conditions in the unit and to use proper quality of food products while preparing sweets. They asked the workers to wear gloves and aprons while working. The owner was asked to provide insurance cover to the workers.

They also visited Sita Ice-creams Pvt Ltd to inspect the unit condition. It was found that several colors and flavors were being used even after their expiry dates. The owner was warned against this and also asked to maintain hygiene in the production unit.
