I am a resident of J P Nagar 7th Phase. It is a regular feature in this part of the city that site owners construct temporary shelters in their plots without toilet & bathroom facilities, and rent it out to labourers in the area. Some others during the construction of their house build such shelters in the vacant plot next to theirs, for the stay of their workers. Some such dwellings continue to exist with people living there. These labourers and their families have no option except to use the nearby vacant plots to attend natures call. Their children defecate on the roads. Along with construction activities such shelters are on the rise, deteriorating the sanitary conditions in the area. This makes life miserable for other residents and their families in the area. The children in the area are forced to play on these dirty roads. Already this area has its own problems in the absence of proper sewerage facilities and drains for the free flow of used water. The recent rains are a welcome relief, as the roads get washed. But the rains won’t come to our help always. Why should other residents suffer? They have a right to live in hygienic environment. There should be laws to regulate the construction of such shelters without toilet and bathrooms, coming up in residential areas. If a shelter is built without toilet and bathroom, it should be treated as a godown only and not as residence.
