“Cashless Hospitalization is the key to make your hospital stay tension-free”. ”This facility is a great relief in times where one doesn’t have to run around in the middle of the night to collect cash for paying up large deposits prior to admission”. These were the advertisements that were put up by the insurance companies and TPA’s when the system of Cashless Hospitalization was launched. Believing these advertisements, thousands of consumers have taken mediclaim policies. Now, all of a sudden the insurance companies want to withdraw this benefit. Such a proposition seems to be illegal. Having lured lakhs of gullible consumers to take policies involving cashless treatment, it would tantamount to unfair trade practice to withdraw it univocally. The Government and Consumer associations should act swiftly to ensure that this unfair trade practice is not allowed.
