The Hindu dated 7th october 2010 had a shocking news-BMTC has tweaked fares to fleece commuters. The Govt. rules havent been followed by BMTC themselves depite being a State run organization. The facts revealed: 1. The minimum distance for fixing fares is 2kms-but in many cases BMTC fares were just over 1km for a stage. 2. The increase of fares in a stage must just be around 60paise. But BMTC fares increase by Rs.2/- in the starting stages. 3.The fares fixed for hi-tech services is 90paise increase per stage-BMTC ordinary services themselves report an higher increase Having all the above facts why wouldnt BMTC be the highest fare collector in the country and report higher revenue- it is also shocking that the above things have been ignored by the Govt which had framed the rules for the same. Apart from the fares, the name boards in most of the buses are only in Kannada and in cosmopolitan city like Bangalore, where a seizable population of Non kannadigas live...
Only recently the Volvo buses carry a scrolling dispaly in English but it doesnt help as one has to wait for the scrolling display in English..but before one could see it the buses flee...I really do not understand will kannada lose its glory if sign boards also in English though I would appreicate importance given to anylocal langauage....
The fares in Karnataka are always a notch higher when compared to neighbouring states..but fare increase if impelemented erratically will also pinch the common man..
