State of utter squalour! Hanumanagar Lane serves as a vital link between BEML Main Road (or New Thippasandara Main Road) at one end and Jeevan Bheema Nagar at the other end. Despite this, the street - and the locality at large - is an state of unspeakable squalour and filth. What makes the situation ironic is that Hanuman Nagar lane is barely two streets away from MLA S. Raghu's house, and less than 2 km away from the residence of the corporator for the area: Sumitra Vijayakumar. Let me present in a nutshell what's wrong with Hanuman Nagar lane: * The Hanuman Nagar lane/ road, which was shoddily and hastily covered with a thin layer of cement-concrete some 2.5 years ago, has long since been reduced to a dirt track * A large building, being built with public money and supposed to serve as a community hall, is lying half built for close to an year.. No one seems to be know whether it will ever be completed.. All kind of building debris and garbage lie strewn in the land that surrounds this half-complete building. * That is not all, a portion of the land surrounding this building is being used for a patently unauthorized purposes: a temple, with corrugated iron sheets serving as the roof, has suddenly sprung up. Illegal power supply from a nearby Bescom power line to 'light up" this temple.. And land surrounding this temple is being used - again unauthorizedly - for tethering cattle of all kinds -- buffalo, cows, sheep, etc. The cattle are allowed free movement across the length and breadth of the already narrow Hanuman Nagar lane. Result? Dung liberally spattered across the street. With only cattle seeming to have right of way here on this lane, the plight of pedestrian and motorists alike can be imagined! * Just next to the temple, is huge open drain, which is clogged with garbage and rubbish of all kinds: plastic bags, old tyres, animal waste, etc. Apart from the environmental hazard, this open drain poses a real threat to of young children who might accidentally fall into it while playing.. * As if all this were not enough, huge piles of garbage lie accumulated for days at the Jeevan Bheema Nagar end of Hanuman Nagar lane. What makes the situation worse is the fact that storm water rains on either side of Hanuman Nagar are blocked with silt and garbage. * Three narrow side roads open on to Hanuman Nagar lane. There are huge, concrete humps (their size is to be seen to believed!) at the entry point of these of these side roads, posing the risk of accidents to children and elders. * Finally, at the New Thippasandra Main Road end of Hanuman Nagar, a large expanse of empty land (under litigation) is being used as a stocking yard for all kinds of building materials - sand, granite, bricks, coal, and so on. Trucks keep moving in and out of this yard all times of day - and night. The noise is deafening - and a haze of dust covers the surrounding area.

Mr Rao, Citizen Matters is city news publication with a public engagement-edge. In addition to our professional news reporting and features, we offer a platform for citizens to report their issues, events, share information, and get feedback from fellow citizens. Citizen can do this through submission of articles, comments, and forum posts for discussion. From time to time, we will take specific cases reported by citizen to pursue investigate and indepth stories. On the other hand, there are also some government officers who keep track of our stories.
Having said this, Citizen Matters does not work with government bodies to solve citizen problems on a day to day basis. Please note this.
