Every day I come across an usual incident - which most of you see but ignore it. When I was a kid, I was brought up in this great city of Bangalore "The Garden City of India"(then). We were taught the following simple rule - that sounds at the back of my mind every day even today ! It goes like this: When you cross a road - look to your right, look to your left, cross the road when there is no traffic. always cross the road on the zebra crossing, wait for the green light to glow before crossing the road. But today - yes when the Green light is on for the traffic to move, you find people crossing the road, and you will find each of these people crossing as: some one who is busy enjoying FM radio with earphone, or some one with all the gadget, laptop, glasses, wires around the neck, and ID card around his neck. Above all the traffic policeman keeps watching this view ? Where are we heading ? What is that taught at school ? Are educated people loosing their morals and basic norms ? or Bangalore is being turned to Bombay ?

I too agree with you. The basic rules are not followed even by literates. When the same people go to foreign city you can hear them saying "Wow! this foreign city is so great. Roads are so wide, vehicles stop for red signal even at 2am and even if there is no traffic, etc, etc.. ". Our city can also be great if only few basic rules are followed!

I do not think its hard to keep up the simple basic rules, which would make a huge difference. but where do we start, who has to start.
I think the traffic police, and every citizen should start to follow this, and also come out in open and tell others to follow it when we see something is not followed.
Do not cross the road when the pedestrian lights are read.
vehicles at the signal should not wait on the zebra crossing,
Do not jump traffic signal.

"I think the traffic police, and every citizen should start to follow this, and also come out in open and tell others to follow it when we see something is not followed."
This I think is the funniest thing I ever heard in the past few years of my life. There might be a possiblility that a common citizen will understand the rules and might make an effort but the policemen are least bothered. All that they look at is making the necessary sum of money at the end of each day and getting back to their homes.
When the care takers of law don't abide by it then why will a common man do. It is important for Bengaluru to realise that all the people employed in different government bodies have to start abiding by the protocols in the Books of law. That will start the revolution which will be called "Safe Bengaluru".

It is the duty of the citizen himself. If not for the rules, at least for his own safety.
Moreover, with lack of pedestrian infrastructure it's all the more difficult.
