In the wake of the mandatory rain water harvesting structure in Bangalore, I would recommend to view the ferro cement technology section in http://thecommunityengineer.weebly.com/ The section has details on building ferro cement water tanks, houses and even boats. Ferro cement is very flexible and can be used to build any structure and shape. Also there are many resources, tools, software and manuals for civil engineers. All free.
